Wadi Al Lith
The area is fairly unique in that the spring provides a river of generous running (hot) water for most of the year, and abundant natural greenery that stretches down towards the coast |
 |
The natural hot spring comes to the surface some 50km to the east of Al Lith, near the town of Ghumayqah. There is a tarmac road that goes from the main road that traverses the coastal plain towards the foothills of the mountains. It initially passes through Ghumayqah, before progressing up the wadi towards the even smaller settlement of Uyun Harrah.
The local municipality have started work to improve the site and have cleared an area for car parking. In a location slightly away from the source of the greenery, they have channeled the waters through a play area that contains swings and sitting areas.
Within convenient walking distance is the more natural setting for the hot spring. The gurgling waters of the above ground stream are set amidst natural greenery that is in great contrast to the surrounding bleakness and austere color of the mountains. From here, the thermal waters flow down the wadi towards the coast and help to provide a variety of natural vegetation along the route.
The whole area is teeming with life. The water is generally clear, except for the thick green moss which can be found throughout. Bird life abounds, particularly Heron, Hamerkop, Black Stork and Masked Shrike, and Arabian Warblers. |
