Yanbu Diving

The town of Yanbu is the diving off point for over 1,930km of the world's best coral reef. Stretching from Yemen to Jordan you will be able to see 450 species of fish and other exotic wildlife
Significant marine species (notably green and hawksbill turtles) occur naturally in large numbers. Dugong, otherwise known as the manatee or sea cow, are a large sea mammal that occur in small family groups. This very shy sea creature is believed to be the animal on which the myth of the mermaid is based. Several species of whale and dolphin are also known to frequent the Red Sea.

The warm, safe and fish-abundant waters are exceptional for swimming, diving, snorkeling, sailing and fishing all year round.

Yanbu on the coast of The Red Sea is a booming industrial town with petrochemical plants, refineries and a lively port. It would be an unlikely tourist destination except for one thing - the best diving in the world is to be found off the coast here.

Yanbu is located 300km North of Jeddah. It is on the same longitude as Egypt's very popular Zabargad Islands.

Diving treks leave from the port of El Sharm. Several important dive sites are located in the stretch of sea between Al Hasani Island, north of Yanbu, and Sha'ah al Abjad in the south.

Eight miles due west is the Gotha el Sharm Reef, a first taste of this untouched sea with magnificent coral sculptures still intact. On the north side of the reef one can dive on the wreck of the Shouna.

27 miles from El Sharm is a chain of reefs: Sha'ab al Markeb, Abu Sulul, Mansi, Tawil, Abu Galawa, and Shabarir. Each has its own unique characteristics but all have in common the spectacular surroundings and diverse wildlife.

Further north again, are the dives sites of Sha'ab Gurush, Sha'ab Suflani and Sha'ab Sadiki - beautiful coral atolls emerging from the blue depths.

Diving around here is exceptional, and the untouched atolls provide a beautiful backdrop.

Sharm Yanbu and Ar Rayis have wonderful beaches.
