Half Moon Beach south of Al-Khobar is a major recreational area for tourists and locals. Half Moon Beach, as the name suggests, is a beautiful crescent of soft sand.
Coastal development between Damman and Half Moon Beach now offers extensive sporting recreation in a picturesque seaside setting.
Included in the development of the beach are Prince Mohamad bin Fahd Recreational City and Alhukair Amusement Center. Both draw large crowds, especially on weekends. These parks have a variety of entertainment and restaurants.
Hotels in the area can arrange for diving lessons, snorkel hire, fishing trips and jetski hire.
The Gulf of Salwah on the Gulf coast in Eastern Province is a large bay between the Saudi Gulf coast and Qatar Peninsula which contains an internationally important population of Dugong.
There is also plenty of opportunity for bird-watching as the area is a vital breeding ground for many birds, including the Socotra Cormorant. These birds breed in winter, and in summer thousands of terns also breed.
Other birds include the Lesser Crested Tern, White-cheeked Tern, Bridled Tern, Lesser Crested Tern also breed on Zakhnuniyah alongside the only known colonies of Gull-billed Tern and Caspian Tern on the Gulf coast of Saudi Arabia |
