Pilgrim & Trade Routes of Al-Qassim

Al-Qassim was a welcoming host to travellers as for several hundred years, the four great caravan routes of the ancient world converged on Buraydah and Unayzah
Plentiful water, and famous Nadji hospitality meant that Al-Qassim was a major junction on The Agailat caravan - the trade routes came from:
1) Eastern Province and Kuwait bringing fuels and marine goods
2) The Trade Routes from Iraq carrying rice, dates, household goods, carpets and clothes
3) The routes from Palestine (camels) and Egypt (gold) and travelling south to what Yemen
4) The Darb Zubaidah pilgrim route which passed through Faid to the north, and detoured to Al-Qassim for a longer rest

Several sites on all of these old highways can be visited. A special interest tour can be designed following the route and visiting; Al Ajradai in the north of the province; onto Al Afjah on the way to Buraydah; Al Haisonaiaj; and the cisterns at Al Jifniah.

Other sites that are not visible as they are buried in the sand include Al Rakiah and Al Hamimah.

During the Buraydah Festival, there is a re-enactment of the caravan parades through the city.
